Why Do I Need To Recover After a Workout?

We all know that exercise must be a part of an overall healthy lifestyle. Exercise can improve your brain function, reduce the risk of disease, help manage your weight, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Adults who sit less and do a moderate amount of exercise regularly will feel the difference compared to those who do not.

Rest and recovery is an equally essential component of an exercise program because it gives the body time to repair, rebuild, and strengthen itself between workouts. Exercise, especially intense exercise, causes stress on the body and small tears in muscle fibers. As muscles heal from these tears, they get bigger and stronger– but they can only do this during rest and recovery, not during the actual workout.

There are a number of things you can do to speed up recovery after a workout. Active recovery, hydration, stretching, good nutrition, and getting enough sleep can all improve your recovery time. However, there are 3 solid steps you can take to make sure your recovery is quick while also ensuring your body is ready for its next intense workout.

Superhuman Protocol

You may be asking yourself, what is the Superhuman Protocol? Is this a way to turn myself into an individual with extraordinary magical powers? No magic here, but following the three steps that encompass the Superhuman Protocol will help you recover quickly from intense workouts, and provide your body with the rest and recovery it needs to keep pushing the limits of your training sessions.

10X Health created the Superhuman Protocol with the idea that guiding the body to heal itself after a workout is the best way to maintain, improve, and speed up the recovery process. It is designed to give healing power to the body through magnetism, oxygen, and light. These natural sources of energy work together to provide the human body with an overall recovery process that will not only make you feel great but also help you recover optimally between workouts.

Step 1: Magnetism

Intense exercise can have many positive effects on the body, but it can also cause inflammation, and soreness, and deplete your energy. Low-frequency electromagnetic waves can stimulate your body’s natural healing processes and increase circulation, reduce inflammation, and boost cellular energy production.

The first step in the Superhuman Protocol involves laying on a PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) mat for 8-10 minutes. PEMF therapy sends electromagnetic pulses into the tissues in the body, allowing the healing process to begin. PEMF therapy has been shown to reduce delayed onset muscle soreness, which allows you greater mobility, increased energy, and the ability to get back to working out faster.

Step 2: Oxygen

When you exercise and your muscles work harder, your body uses more oxygen and produces more carbon dioxide. To cope with this extra demand, your breathing has to increase from about 15 times a minute when you are resting, up to about 40–60 times a minute during exercise. To recover properly, and quickly from an intense workout, you need oxygen.

Once your cells have absorbed the electromagnetic energy from step one in the Superhuman protocol, they are primed to absorb oxygen. This second step takes 8-10 minutes and consists of light exercise while you breathe in highly concentrated oxygen, known as exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT). Increasing your body’s oxygenation levels isn’t the only benefit of EWOT, other benefits include: improving your workout performance, improving cardiovascular health, boosting metabolism, and helping with weight management.

Step 3: Light

The final step in the Superhuman Protocol uses light, specifically red light to penetrate the body’s cells and help with cell repair and production of energy. This step takes 10-12 minutes to expose your body to red light to harness all of the power that it can provide. Red light therapy may be beneficial for decreasing inflammation, and reducing chronic pain, as well as the added benefit of enhancing your skin’s appearance.

Red light therapy works by activating your mitochondria, or the powerhouse of the cell, which increases the energy of the cell and allows it to do its job–healing and growing–more efficiently. Red light therapy, like all the steps in the Superhuman Protocol, is non-invasive and pain-free.

Improve Your Recovery Time After Workouts

Using the Superhuman Protocol to improve your recovery time between workouts may not only help you recover faster but also improve your overall performance and wellness. The three steps included in the protocol are all beneficial on their own, but together provide you with a system for success. Recovering quicker, and more completely, through the Superhuman Protocol allows you to reach your full potential.
